Today: the exciting conclusion!

And now the exciting conclusion...

Wait! Do you think you could move the clothes?

I'm working on the screen for printing the cover, (I'm doing it by hand with screen filler since I cannot afford photo emulsion or to risk screwing up my last screen with it. Isn't poverty romantic...) and should have some comics created by the weekend.
Sammy and Syd III Cover
Until then you can pre-order this fun little book for only $2.00. As soon as they are made I'll be charging $3.

Visit my online store and pick up some of the cute and creepy stuff I made, just for you.

Bye 'til next week --

Sammy and Syd III: 3rd installment

Timing required that I repeat a couple of panels, please forgive me.

How about the laudromat?Good Idea! These places always scared me anyway.

Read it from the beginning. Continues Thursday.

This book is coming together so nicely that I think it'll be a $3 comic when it's done, but you can still pre-order it now for only $2. I'll be making the screen for the cover this week. Finally my procrastination is working in your favor!

Don't forget that I have cool monster buttons for sale. 7 for $5.

More Monsters

Things are pretty much the same, but I'm feeling better about life and using my time to get some stuff accomplished.

I drew this guy for my Halloween Button Set.

I've been going to local street fairs to sell my stuff. I've been monkeying around with my website, adding some cool effects (Well, lightbox). AND, today, finally, I worked up the courage to start inking the revisions I've been making to Sammy and Syd #3 which should be done this week. That is unless any of my 3 future part time jobs manifest in some big way.

So far this week, I'm still a professional, starving artist.

Monster Time

Hey! Look, more drawings! 2 Posts in one week?
Things are finally breaking free in me.

I draw monsters because real life is much more frightening.

A few friends and I are getting together weekly to draw together. It's making me so very happy.

Drawing Life

Just as I was feeling that my drawing had been getting stifled by how lazy I am as an artist, a couple of my comic creating, internet buddies started [info]drawing_life where they take one photo a day and draw it. I am participating as I can. Here's today's:

The original photo and their drawings are here.

Mine is not the most accurate drawing, but I think I caught the general mood.

Art Fair and Prints for sale

Bread and Water Theater's Music and Art Fair

Edit: Saturday went well, but it got off to a slow start and there was an hour or so where I was sure that I had wasted my last dollars, signing up and preparing for this thing, for nothing. Those were bleak moments. But things did turn around and I had a good day. Friends visited and cheered me up, and then some people I didn't know stopped by and I was able to spread a little SkullyFlower love on to new audiences.

You can now own signed and numbered prints of some of my drawings for $10 each ($20 matted). I spent my last few dollars on some really nice art paper that prints up very nicely. I just did a few, but if you want something of mine in print form, just let me know.

Only the black and white ones are available right now. If I make enough money over the weekend, I'll buy a color ink cartridge.

I am already super stoked for Halloween

But then again, it's always Halloween in my heart.

I'm here, just quiet

The other day I was thinking about Jamie Hewlett's Tank Girl and his distinctive facial shape, and sketched this without looking at anything. I didn't get it right, but I like the way she came out, anyway.

I heart Jamie Hewlett

I'm working on some fun stuff between my ineffectual efforts to secure a regular income, but mostly, I'm berating myself and squirrely-whirling around my house and on the internet, creating new shops on different networks that no one knows about.

Did you know?
I SkullyFlower has a facebook page

... and...

NEW AMAZING PRODUCT!
Monster Buttons
Why wait for Halloween to start drawing monsters? Here is the next button pack available in my store $5.00 for all 7.

I am way too self critical to make comic books right now. Backgrounds are killing me. KILLING ME! I can't seem to focus, or even want to, and every time I try to work on one of the books that I've already started, I get bogged down thinking about how horrible they are. I'll try to come out with more one pagers. I think it's all I can handle right now.

I am simply having a rough time and feel like I am losing ground in the attitude department. I can't market myself for poop and get so sick of talking about it all.

Summer time and the living is easy...

He's not a morning monster.

I'm selling some originals on my website now.
(Sorry, he's not one of them.)

How I am doing, always

I've been trapped in this loop since 1995 or so. Currently, I'm somewhere between the bottom two frames. I need to find a job, but I am really hoping to find a part-time position, because I am extremely sick of this cycle and would like more balance in my life.

I actually enjoy working, I've got a super analytical, number crunching side to me that likes order and routine. I would just like to spend a bit less than 40 hours a week doing it. I need some of myself left over for my artistic pursuits and to spread the joy of silly SkullyFlower goods throughout the world.

Anyway, that's that. I'm going to go work on comics now. Have a great day!

July 15, 2010 8:54pm
Look: Baby's first Jam comic!

This is my first jam comic, ever! My buddy, illustrator, Doug Mac, and I drew this on our laps in ball point pen during a boring meeting.

July 12, 2010 10:02pm
Still here

I'm sorry that the art has been sparse and unfinished lately. There has been a lot going on and I have been a little bit overwhelmed with it all.

I am getting a little breather and am using it to do some fun art. I'm not going to make any promises, though, because every time I do some crazy circumstance makes a liar out of me.

Today I did pencil a brief comic that is looking pretty good so far. I'll post it when it's done.

This doodle of myself was inspired by the way that Noah Van Sciver draws his friend John Porcellino, but it's nowhere near as good.

July 1, 2010 11:01am
Hello world, I miss you.

Here's a change of scene.

I got sick of looking at that overwhelmed face of mine.

I'm doing okay, but life has been extra challenging for me this last month or so. Sometimes, life's lessons hurt. Nothing too horrible, really, just adventures in employment. I tried something new and found it was not for me. I bit off more than I could chew and it bit me back. I'm starting over with a better idea of what I want and what I can't want, so hopefully I'll find my way, soon.

As always, I'll keep doodling.

Save me

Just Stop Already
This really just says it all. I feel like I stepped into the biggest pile of poo.

June 4, 2010 8:40pm
Well, I am a college graduate.

I am also, now, a full time accounts payable person, in one of those "fast paced" style offices, so I don't know how much drawing I will be getting to in the near future. I find adulthood exhausting.

I did, however, start Skullyflower around a full time, grown-up job, so hopefully it won't take me too long to get back at it.

One day I'll score that lucrative part time job that I crave, but until then you all will have to be patient with me.

It's the weekend and no one is paying attention, but ...

More Doodles for you...

I think when school is done, I'm going to start compiling my best doodles into an art book, so that you can actually see them.

Well, I'm just about done with my degree in accounting.
Who wants to be the first to hire this artistic, intelligent, funny, straight-A, almost graduate to do accounting for their fun and profitable business?
I'm multi-talented and can do a variety of other stuff as well, including web page development.

I'm having a difficult time focusing on my last few tests because I'm so preoccupied, wondering what's going to happen next. Suspense!

Free Comic Book Day 2010

Getting ready

I made a new informational mini to hand out at the Free Comic Book Day event, Sat. May 1, hosted by Comics Etc. in the Village Gate, Rochester, NY.

I'll be there from 10 am on until the bitter end. Come say hi, look at some original comic art and other random stuff I pulled together to show folks.

April 24, 2010 2:08pm
Well, it's over

Spring break rocked

That's my electric pineapple.
I was at the music store with Tom, who was hunting for guitar amps, when I spotted these goofy little electric ukuleles. My mind immediately started fabricating commercials about how great my life would be with one of these things. I was home and had almost successfully talked myself down, when Tom almost insisted that I go back before the store closed and get one. Who am I to argue?

The sounds we (me and the pineapple) make together are becoming less and less horrible every day. It's a nice little instrument, and it's quiet when it's not plugged in, which is good because I hate to make mistakes loudly.

I also drew a comic for free comic book day, and wrote and sketched out several others. So I'm satisfied. Now to refocus on accounting and try to get a job lined up for after graduation. Sheesh!

Spring's Broken

The PunchBuggy Tour visit and our trip to MoCCA Fest in NYC have my creative juices flowing, and now that I have a week off from school, I have a little time to swim around in them a little.

More new doodles here
The trouble is that I have so many ideas cooking in my head right now and not nearly enough time to finish them:
  • New free mini for Free comic book day
  • Sammy and Syd 3
  • Might Boosh Fan Comic (I fall in and out of the psychosis)
  • Micro Mini comics to go with some of the buttons and stuff that I sell
  • Journal comics
Luckily this is my last semester. Then I will have an Accounting Degree, and will be off on my next life adventure, which will most likely involve selling the house we just bought, moving somewhere distant, working as an accountant and refocusing on making comics and other art.

Illustration Friday: Dip

Just a quick doodly one in my sketchbook, but it's something.

I haven't done one of these in a while. This is a topic I can relate to.

More rad doodle action at my website.

Thanks again Punchbuggy Tour

I had the honor of hosting 3 of the 4 fabulous, Punchbuggy Tour artists Monday night. MK got sick and went home from the tour early, but I got to spend a little time with Liz Bailie([info]lizbaillie), Gabby (Ken Dahl) Schulz, and their "intern" Sarah Louise [info]sally_bloodbath. They brightened my somewhat bleak existance of the moment. They were excellent house guests. If you ever get a chance to lend them some floor, you will not be sorry.

I've been wanting to draw comics about it, but I'm still playing catch up in school. I did have 15 minutes break from work yesterday to doodle out these badly drawn scribbles in my journal.

They came and did their thing in the Comics class we have at MCC. I was so excited to get to spend some time with them that I could hardly contain myself. I had to stop myself a couple of times from hovering around them like a helpful little fruit fly.

We wound up having a fun time, at least I did. I showed them my house, and it helped me remember how great it is. We had some food and I took them to our Mega-Super-Market, Wegmans. I think we spent an hour at least in the candy isle. It was very fun. I could have hung out talking with those guys for days.

I'm suffering a little post visit sadness, am super tired, and having a hard time caring about accounting and school. Can you tell that I am starved for creative company? There's an art scene here, but for the most part, it's not one I can relate too.

On the other hand, their visit has stoked the flame in my heart for drawing comics! Now if I only had time. I've been stumbling from one chore straight to the next since they left.

So many little hearts. The rest of the scribbles are sad.
